Good Monday to you all. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Congratulations to last week's winners on the PGA and European tours, Swedes Carl Pettersson and Richard S. Johnson, respectively. Carl seems to hit his stride this time of year and usually either wins or contends in a tournament between the Open and the PGA Championship. I thought it was Dean Wilson's week, but strong, consistent play by Carl earned him another win. And I know Richard S. Johnson couldn't be more thrilled to win his home open, the Nordea Scandinavian Masters. The Swede played excellent throughout the weekend in tough conditions.
Today I'd like to introduce a new weekly feature for At Home On the Links, one that will help get you involved. Every Monday I'll post a Question of the Week. This might be something serious, something funny, something personal, something way out there. But I thought a great question to start off with is one that most golfers never seem to get tired of talking about - Equipment.
Specifically, what's in YOUR bag?
Share what clubs make up your 14....or 10....or 5, or whatever it may be. Old, new, dusty, antique, broken, we want to hear about them. Which one is your favorite, your "go-to" club? Which one scares the molasses out of you?
So share, complain, brag away on your set, and most importantly, have fun.
As the fearless leader of this blog and it's army of ______ strong followers, I'll lead the way. . .
Driver - 08 TaylorMade Burner (and I call him Old Tom Morris)
5w - Wilson Staff FYBrid 18 degree
3h - TaylorMade Burner
4h - Wilson Staff FYBrid
5-9, PW, SW, LW - Ping Zings from, oh, about 1991. OUCH! Think technology might help improve my game in this area???
Putter - Odessey Sabertooth (nice putter, it's my putting grip that's confusing the heck out of me right now)
My main focus right now is on becoming really, really close buddies with my new best friend, Old Tom Morris. Right now, we seem to have different ideas of where that tiny, white ball should go; and Old Tom is stubborn and strong and he's getting his bloody way at the moment. But I've got a little bit of stubbornness in me too (helps being Polish) and I will make nice with the Old guy and we will become old chums.
Now, what's in your bag?
I have an Adams Hybrid set that I think is from 2007. They are basically still brand new as I have probably only actually golfed 10-15 times total, but they have made quite a few appearances at the driving range.
ReplyDeleteFor my driver I have some version of Cleveland for chicks that I paid $50 for and does a fairly good job when I use it, trouble is, I'm not real certain how to make it work at its highest potential.
Because I have a hybrid set, I have a wonderful thing called Mid Hybrid and Long Hybrid that eliminates any iron numbers. When I first got started Ms. Mid and I were pals, but this last go round on the course Mr. Long and I were the BEST of friends. He worked out great.
Then, my brilliant husband asked me about using my fairway wood...it honestly had never occurred to me, and I never used it til a few weeks ago on the range, and wouldn't you know it, I hit the straightest and longest shots. Guess the fairway wood will be making its appearance as soon as the temp goes below 100 billion degrees.
My putter is a standard putter that came with the set...no complaints. I putted really well the last time we went out, and it is apparent that my putting gets better with practice and play...now if only I could see what everyone else sees when they read the greens. For now I just pretend.
As far as my favorite club - the short iron! Again, since its hybrid set, no numbers, but the short iron is my club! I generally hit great shots with it, no matter where I am. It's my mental go-to club. :)
So that's my set - a total of 8 clubs (i think) in my bag. Nothing special, nothing fancy, but they are doing a nice job of teaching a non-athletic girl how to play the most frustrating yet rewarding game on earth.
I am proud to say that as of yesterday, I have all Calloway in my bag. I have moved from Ping to Calloway. Driver is the Diablo 9.5 tour. Hybrid FT 21 degrees. Irons are Diablo edge standard all the way around. Three wood is the diablo standard. Wedges remain spin milled Cleveland and the putter is new to me, and it is a Cleveland bend 5 degrees flat. Now, we have to see if this new technology helps!
ReplyDeleteWise choice I believe to move from Ping to Callaway. Have had Ping all my life and not a big fan. Those Diablo Edge are really nice.
ReplyDeleteHow do you like the Cleveland wedges?
Rhiannon, looking forward to seeing you hit that fairway wood in an actual round. Should help your game out a lot.
My bag consists of the following:
ReplyDeleteCalloway FT-3 Fusion Driver (draw bias)
2/H Cobra Baffler Rail (17 degree)
3/H Cobra Baffler (20 degree)
5/H Cobra Baffler (24 degree)
6/H Cobra Baffler DWS (26 degree)
6-L Cobra S9 Irons
Cobra SL-05 Optica Putter
You are a Cobra man through and through....little J.B. Holmes action happenin'. Is that Cobra putter that ginormous mallet?? You should be choppin' lumber with that thing! What happened to the 1/H Baffler??
ReplyDeleteAnd are you still a B'stone ball man?
Johnny, what prompted the switch from Ping to Callaway?
ReplyDeleteI hear that Villegas is making the switch from Cobra to TaylorMade.
1/H I gave to my father-in law and the SL-05 is that big mallet with fiber optics on it!
ReplyDeleteyou gave away MY 1/H???? WHAT?? Say it ain't so dude. I was killing with that thing in October. I think I just literally shed a tear.
